You may think that starting a restaurant business in the middle of the pandemic was a bad idea, but with more than 20 years of hospitality experience between them, Dean and Jerome had the confidence to do so. They opened their first Pastan pop-up in Covent Garden in April 2021 and have since gone from strength to strength. With two other pop-ups following the success of the first, they eventually established a permanent location in The Barbican, central London. They serve satisfying vegan pasta dishes alongside their healthy Plantshakes at lunchtime and offer a more substantial menu of pasta creations along with appetising starters and decadent desserts in the evening. If you want to enjoy a taste of Pastan at home, they are also in the process of making their own range of vegan sauces. Sustainability is high on their agenda as their customers have the option to add a small amount to their bill for a fruit tree to be planted to offset the carbon footprint of their food. They have even set up a bursary in conjunction with the University of Cambridge to help pay for postgraduate students to study sustainability.

- Mark RobertsAmazing vegan pasta accompanied by great service. I would particularly recommend the Pumpkin & Sage tortellini as well as the tiramisu. Can't wait to go again and try some of the other dishes.
- Shree AgnihotriLovely people serving delicious food! The pasta is cooked to perfection, the sauce is creamy and delicious. They also have a good selection of wines that complement the food well. The portion sizes are great. Desserts were a miss for us. Would definitely recommend for the mains.
- Jua LeeWent there the second time in less than a month (I don’t usually go to the same place as there are so many places to try out there). Also, I’ve been like, “well, I can make delicious pasta myself at home, and Italian food isn’t very vegan friendly…”, but know what? This place won! I tasted 6 different pasta menus in 2 visits and all of them were incredible. The feeling was same as when I tasted them in slow food credited restaurants in Italy. The little ball-shaped donuts are also a must-try. Staff are attentive and happy, service was timely.
- CaraPastan is amazing. I hadn't had carbonara since being vegan, and it was just as I remembered. My boyfriend and I also enjoyed the bruschetta to start (sublime) and the biscoff doughnuts to finish (not to be dramatic, but I think they changed my life). Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu.
- Anthony BellefontaineA really lovely place. The food was well made and came quickly, and at a decent price. We spent around £25 pp for a main and a shared starter. Our host was very attentive and helpful. Will be back next time we're in the area.
