Opening his own cafe has proved to be quite the journey for Dauns’ founder, Rickard Daun, from his childhood in Sweden to his eventual move to London. Growing up in the suburbs of a small city, Rickard was taught to cook by his mother, Inglis, who showed him everything from baking to how to make preserves. He spent many hours in the kitchen developing his skills, which would later serve him well as he set up a deli in London in 2018. He had just gone fully vegan after spending years as a vegetarian, and this influenced the food that he would produce. After several years working at festivals and other events, Rickard delivered food from his home throughout the Covid pandemic before returning to the public space by establishing the UK’s very first vegan Scandinavian cafe, deli and bar. Here you can try vegan versions of Swedish dishes or just pop in for a traditional fika coffee break with a cinnamon bun and locally roasted coffee.

- The Food SoldierStumbled across this lovely little cafe when we visited Petticoat Lane. Tables had reserved signs on them but not until a certain time, was informed that we were free to sit up until the reserved time. My wife and I occupied a small central table and we ordered a latte and a hot chocolate along with a peach Melba danish. The service is ever so friendly and the drinks were delicious, and very well decorated, it’s the extra mile that the team take that makes this a lovely place to visit. The toilets are very clean with lots of napkins and plenty of liquid soap. The prices were surprisingly great value and will visit if ever in the area again.
- David MannBeen meaning to come here for a while and was so impressed when I finally did! Great atmosphere, lovely staff and amazing food. The little vegan sales bit with scandi vegan treats is sweet too
- Marius BurtscheidtBest vegan brunch I've had in London. Can't recommend the deal for the 3 (different) Smørrebrød enough. Especially the curry chicken one was just perfect. We were there when the place was understaffed due to NYE and still had a great time without any delays. The value for money was also incredibly good compared to other places.
- Mike McConnell (Lorcav)Small and cosy, but a total gem to have on your list for when you want somewhere to drop into and just sit and eat without any hustle and bustle. The menu covers different sizes and runs from toasted sandwiches and daily soup to classic plates of food. The fridges come stocked with an interesting array of drinks to choose from. The decor is simple and clean and the decorations tastefully minimal, the staff are friendly and engaging and the music is varied but not intrusive, a nice low key vibe at times.
- Tiarnán ByrneDauns is a vegan Scandinavian cafe, which is the first that I have ever seen. I wouldn't know this cuisine very well so I found it exciting to try something new! The menu has a wide range of Scandinavian staples but we first tried the platter of open sandwiches "Smörrebröd" which was class. This was perfect as there were three different flavours to try. The "Skagen" Tofish was creamy and delicious. It didn't have a strong fishy flavour but was perfectly balanced for me. The bread on this sandwich was like a garlic bread style and it was fantastic. The second sandwich had the vegan meatballs and beetroot which had a nice sweet but pickled flavour. Finally the sliced seitan sandwich, this had the most wonderful sauce on top which would remind you of dijon mustard with a pickled twist. The second thing we had was the hot dog which was served in a flat bread with some potato. This was a proper big portion and the seitan sausage 'Tunnbrödsrulle' was brilliant. It had a nearly 'Cumberland sausage' flavour which was super tasty. I also tried the cinnamon roll 'Kanelbulle' which was soft and sweet and paired perfectly with the americano I ordered. It may have been one of the most distinctive coffees I have had out in a while. Overall I really enjoyed this lunch and would definitely come back to try the other options on the menu 😊
