Vegan Junk Food Bar
Bringing people together around futuristic junk food.
A positive change
Vegan Junk Food Bar was first established in 2017, in the charming area of western Amsterdam. Its founders aimed to make a positive change for the world and its human and animal inhabitants by creating an accessible place where people from all walks of life could come together to enjoy delicious vegan junk food made sustainably.
Breaking boundaries and borders
After expanding to other locations in the Netherlands, Vegan Junk Food Bar went cross-border in November 2020, when a new restaurant was set up in Barcelona, Spain. Since then, another has also opened up in Cologne, and the aim is to migrate to more countries via the company’s franchise model, through which they hope to build empowering international relationships with like-minded people.
A colourful menu
No matter the location, the focus is always on innovation in both flavour and texture, with quality as the foundation. The 100% plant-based menu is bursting with colour, from the homemade burgers, which are served in vibrant buns dyed pink or black using vegetable extracts, to the vivid Purple Garlic and Blue Daddy dipping sauces. The restaurant’s trademark Smiley Fries can be added as a side and washed down with a satisfyingly sweet cocktail, all of which have intriguing names like the Tipsy Unicorn and the Holy Dragon. Each meal can be followed by a Dessert in a Jar, such as the Better Pnut Butter – a rich blend of peanut butter and dark chocolate – to round things off with an indulgent treat.
Catering to everyone
There is even a separate gluten-free menu which incorporates a range of options, including dishes from their range of Freaky Loaded Fries, all of which are served with colourful flower petals, and some of their famous Zeafood starters, like the Kalamariz Rings and Flamboyant Shrimpz. Many of these are perfect for sharing, especially the Sumo Platter, which contains a selection of their starters, helping to bring people together around delicious vegan food. There are also salad options, and anyone can appreciate the extensive drinks menu, which includes everything from refreshing coconut-based beverages to craft beers, hot drinks and even zingy kombucha.
Pumping music
As well as having a dedicated brand innovation team that is constantly coming up with fresh ideas for new dishes such as the VJFBabies bitesize burgers, Vegan Junk Food Bar has a music curator who picks out the best R&B and hip hop tracks to accompany your eating experience.
Vibrant interiors
Despite all of VJFB’s many locations all coming under the same name, each one has its own unique decor and atmosphere so that those visiting multiple restaurants get a completely new experience wherever they go. Distinctive street art has been painted over the walls of each diner, bringing them an urban, metropolitan vibe, and making for a dynamic yet authentic environment.
A team on a mission
The creative team at Vegan Junk Food Bar are dedicated to bringing their vibrant vegan culture and warm hospitality to as many people as possible, and their willingness to keep growing is a testament to this. As well as making their restaurants as welcoming as possible through things such as their dog-friendly policy, they have also expanded into different areas, selling their own sauces and branded clothing. Ultimately, though, it is their dedication to making scrumptious plant-based fare that makes Vegan Junk Food Bar the place to go for quality, meat-free junk food.
